get to know laura
How long have you been doing hair & makeup?
I’ve been a hair & makeup artist for 12 years doing a mixture of fashion, music videos, commercials, tv and film. My main work seems to centre around tv comedy, which I love being a part of.
What are your career highlights?
The time I transformed Paul Kaye into Freddie Mercury for a BBC comedy will always stick in my mind. The way he started to ‘become’ Freddie in the chair was so intriguing and funny. It just shows the power of makeup and wigs.
Why do you love working on weddings?
There is something so special about working closely with a bride to design a hair and makeup look that they love and then being there on the wedding morning to help bring it all together. I always leave a wedding brimming with satisfaction.
What are your must have products in your kit?
I cannot be without NARS foundations, Laura Mercier ‘Secret Camouflage’ concealer and Becca highlighters. For hair I adore anything by Oribe for their gorgeous scents, especially their dry texture spray. While I’m prepping skin I like to apply a nice Aveda hand cream with lavender which always has a nice calming effect for those wedding nerves!
Fancy name dropping some celebrities or big publications you’ve worked on?
I am a personal makeup artist to the Newsnight presenter Emily Maitlis. I’ve worked on shows such as Downton Abbey, Eastenders, Peep Show and Would I Lie to You. I have had work published in the Observer and the Times and worked on campaigns with brands such as Nike, Yves Saint Laurent, 02, Tods and Adidas.
