After four years of uncertainty the UK has left the EU and we now face the task of working out what these new rules mean for life as we know it.
Over the past decade the Elevate team have travelled regularly to the continent for destination weddings. We had expected a slight downturn in 2021 due to nervousness about what the new rules may mean or if there was no deal on the 31st December 2020. However due to COVID we ended up with many of our 2020 destination weddings now scheduled for summer 2021.
So what happens now? What are the rules?
We don’t have the answers to everything but here are some of the most frequently asked questions about destination wedding hair and makeup and the impact of Brexit.
Yes! Great news is that we’re still allowed to work short term in the EU so we can still fly in for the weekend for your wedding. Our artists will need to be aware of their 90 in 180 days limitations however it is unlikely that any of our artists will have any issues regarding this as we generally just stay in Europe for 1 or 2 nights for each wedding so will still be spending more than 50% of our time in the UK even in the busiest months!
Honestly, we don’t know however it won’t for our couples. We charge a £400 flat fee for destination wedding travel which we then use to book flights, accommodation, car hire and the kitty for fuel and toll roads. We wouldn’t be surprised to see some cost increases later in 2021 and in 2022 but more likely due to the impact of COVID than Brexit.
If you and your guests can travel we can too so we’re not expecting to experience any issues here. We know it’s a long and nervous wait for many of our couples but everything changes so quickly we really wont know until nearer to the day. If any of our artists are living in a tier 4 area they will still be allowed to travel as it is a work trip so we’re usually afforded more freedoms than wedding or social restrictions.
Yes, UK driving licences will still be recognised by the EU so we will still be able to hire cars as easily as before.
